WETRAVEL HOSTING CLIMATE ACTION WEBINAR WITH EXPERT PANELISTS

Surrounding Earth Day, WeTravel is hosting a free webinar to discuss how travel businesses can measure, reduce and offset their carbon emissions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Tues., April 18, 2023- WeTravel–the bookings and payments platform that thousands of travel businesses trust to manage their businesses–is hosting on April 25, 2023, a free webinar More Than Offsetting: Climate Action for Travel Businesses to discuss how travel companies can measure and reduce their CO2 emissions – and offset with reputable organizations the unavoidable carbon emissions.
As the second-annual sustainability focused webinar hosted by WeTravel, this year’s one-hour webinar will discuss the U.N.’s most-recent report on climate change, which urges all private and public sectors to reduce their carbon emissions before 2025. The expert panelists from Sustainable Travel International and Tomorrow’s Air will discuss how travel businesses can measure their carbon footprint, then provide actions to reduce their emissions and offset what emissions can’t be reduced.
“As a platform that supports thousands of travel businesses to manage successful operations, we know our responsibility is to provide the resources and technology to make their operations better for the planet, “ said Keri Pfeiffer, WeTravel’s head of account management. ”The health of the travel industry relies on the traveler’s ability to explore thriving ecosystems and communities. Therefore, we’re continuously looking for new ways to educate our clients on how they can minimize their carbon footprint and offer them solutions to offset the emissions that can’t be reduced.”
According to data gathered by the European Investment Bank, 22 percent of European and American travelers say flights won’t be their chosen transportation while traveling this year, while a majority of Americans also state they expect to pay more for sustainable travel options. In addition to these notable shifts in consumer behavior, WeTravel reported in their 2022 Annual Travel Trends Report that 89 percent of custom tour operators identified extreme weather conditions based on climate change as a potential threat to reaching their growth strategies by 2025.
In 2022, WeTravel launched its Carbon Offset feature, in partnership with Sustainable Travel International, which allows any of its travel businesses to embed carbon offsets into its check-out process. Since its launch, hundreds of travel businesses have added the feature into their checkout – and thousands of travelers have offset their trip emissions. In the webinar–hosted by WeTravel with participation from Christina Beckmann, Head of Tomorrow's Air, Paloma Zapata, CEO of Sustainable Travel International, and Court Whelan, Chief Sustainability Officer at Natural Habitat Adventures–WeTravel will discuss how to source and use reputable carbon offsetting organizations, but first it will tackle the discuss of measuring and reducing CO2 in your travel business.

This isn’t a conversation around sustainability, it’s a discussion on about facilitating action that will have a positive impact on communities around the globe and sustaining our planet for future generations,” said Pfeiffer.
