Winter in the Heart of the American West: Jackson Hole

Jackson, WY (Oct. 4, 2016)– Jackson Hole, a year-round destination for world-class outdoor recreation nestled between Wyoming’s Teton and Gros Ventre mountain ranges, has announced a refreshed line up of events, attractions and pricing specials for the 2016-2017 winter season.

Outdoor Winter Recreation
Visitors can feed their craving for fresh powder with a wide variety of outdoor activities. Not only is the area home to three ski resorts—the top-rated Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR), Grand Targhee Resort and Snow King Mountain Resort—the 48-mile long valley also neighbors Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park and Bridger Teton National Forest; that’s more than 9,000 square miles of majestic scenery with endless winter activity options, including:

  • Snowmobile/Snow Coach Tours: Explore the slopes and the surrounding scenic area in the freedom of a snowmobile with Jackson Hole Snowmobile Tours or a more relaxing snow coach. Tours are available through Togwotee Mountain Lodge & Snowmobile Adventures and Scenic Safaris.
  • Fat Biking/Winter Biking: Experience a winter wonderland on wheels specially designed to sail over untamed terrain. Schedule a tour with Teton Mountain Bike Tours and learn about the unique aspects of the greater Jackson Hole area from the experts, or grab a rental and take a spin solo. Fat Bike Tours are also available at Turpin Meadows Ranch located on the edge of Grand Teton National Park.
  • Ice Climbing: Adventurers can test their mental stamina and physical agility at Exum Ice Park in Snow King. Group lessons, private lessons and open climbing sessions are available.
  • Hot Springs: Ease sore muscles from outdoor adventures with a relaxing soak at Granite Hot Springs just south of Jackson Hole.
  • Outdoor Exploration/Photography: Capture the unique and untamed wilderness of Jackson Hole’s many parks and protected areas including the National Elk Refuge.

Mountain Resorts Winter Promotions & Enhancements

  • SKI FREE Christmas, JHMR: Book a minimum four-night lodging and lift package through Jackson Hole Central Reservations before Dec. 23 and earn two complimentary ski days at JHMR. This unprecedented deal can also be combined with a $300 airfare credit per person.
  • Golden Ticket, JHMR: Back by popular demand for one weekend only (Jan. 9-31, 2017), JHMR is welcoming all skiers and snowboarders with a valid 2016-2017 winter season pass from anywhere in the world to visit and receive a 40 percent discount on lift tickets based on the current daily window rate.
  • Ski Free, Stay Free: Jackson Hole Resort Lodging is offering an exclusive savings package for families visiting with children. Choose any condominium or home rental for a minimum of four nights and receive a 10 percent discount off the entire stay and for each paying adult. Children under 14 ski free. This program is valid for all winter stays, with the exclusion of stays between Dec. 25 - 31, 2016.
  • Sweetwater Gondola, JHMR: Opening mid-December, the new eight-passenger gondola located between the Bridger Gondola and Teewinot High Speed Quad will provide access to mid-mountain terrain, the Casper Restaurant and to the new children’s ski school facility.
  • Night Skiing, Snow King Mountain Resort: Night skiing returns near the Rafferty Activity Center with more lighting, more snowmaking and more grooming for beginner and intermediate skiers.
  • Magic Carpet Rides, Snow King Mountain Resort: Ideal for children, visitors can take the new magic carpet ride at the beginner area on the eastern side of Rafferty Lift.
  • Expanded Ski Hours, Snow King Mountain Resort: Beginning this winter, Snow King Mountain Resort will be open seven days a week.
  • Cowboy Coaster and Treetop Adventure, Snow King Mountain Resort: Let loose on an exhilarating rollercoaster ride that takes riders 456 feet up Snow King Mountain then down twists and turns as high as four stories tall.
  • Snowcat Adventures, Nordic Trail System, Fat Biking, Tube Park; Grand Targhee Resort: Pristine powdered slopes play host to a variety of downhill activities that are fun for the entire family. Play it safe on a tube, or kick it up a notch in a Snowcat.

Winter Community Events
Celebrate all things winter in the company of locals and fellow travelers at Jackson Hole’s seasonal events.

  • Town Square Lighting Ceremony (Nov. 27): This year, the annual tradition will take place from 5 - 7 p.m. in the idyllic Jackson Hole Town Square and will feature a visit from Santa Claus, holiday music, carols, cookies and cocoa.
  • The Wizard of Oz (December 9-11):The Jackson Hole Center for the Arts is excited to present its version of this classic. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.jhcenterforthearts.org.
  • Santa on the Square (Dec. 15-24):  Surrounded by the glittering lights of the Stage Stop building in the Jackson Hole Town Square, kiddos can visit with Santa. Available every evening from 5 - 7 p.m.
  • Jackson Hole Public Art Winter Block Party (Dec. 8): Join Jackson Hole Public Art for a Winter Block Party. Held on Center Street in the historic and festive downtown, visitors can enjoy art, bonfires, cider and cocoa, and even art making at the Mobile Studio.
  • Glow Worm Parade, JHMR (Dec. 31): Perfect for kids, the Parade meets at 4:50 p.m. by the Teewinot Lift and substitutes glow sticks for torch lights. 
  • Fireworks and Torchlight Parade, Snow King Mountain Resort, Grand Targhee Resort, JHMR (Dec.31): Families can ring in the New Year with fireworks, torchlight parades and New Years events at Snow King Mountain ResortJHMR or Grand Targhee Resort.
  • Eukanuba Stage Stop Race (Jan. 27-29):  family friendly event will a sled dog race in the Jackson Hole Town Square, mushers, refreshments and fireworks. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.
  • Jackson Hole Ski Joring & Cutter Races (Feb. 4-5, 11-12): Cross-country skiing and horsepower collide in continuation of a Jackson Hole Western tradition that began over 75 years ago. Proceeds benefit The Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. For more information, visit www.jhshriners.org.
  • Moose Chase (Feb. 18): The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club hosts the 24th Annual Moose Chase Nordic Ski race at the legendary Trail Creek Nordic Center.   • Mini Hahnenkamm Town Downhill (March 11-12): A community favorite that draws more than 200 competitors and 500 spectators, The Jackson Town Downhill is one of the last non-sanctioned downhill races. The event features the heart-throbbing Mini-Hahnenkamm course on Snow King Mountain with divisions for Pro, Recreation, Telemark, Junior, Fat and Baggy, and Snowboard.   • Rendezvous Festival (End of Season, Dates TBD): The four-day lifestyle and music festival returns with nationally acclaimed acts like Nathaniel Rateliff, the Zach Brown Band and the Chris Robinson Brotherhood headlining last year, the upcoming line up is sure to be equally impressive.
  • 41st Annual World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb (March 23-26) The World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb challenges more than 300 brave and daring racers from across North America. Held at Snow King Mountain, the racecourse travels straight up Exhibition, a double black diamond run rising 1,500 vertical feet above the Town of Jackson.   • Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle (March 25):A tradition in Jackson Hole, the four-event race consists of an alpine ski leg, cross-country ski leg, bicycle leg and a boating leg. Proceeds benefit the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable outdoor winter programs to Jackson youth.
