Alaska 2017 Conference, FAM Programs Abound for NACTA Members

Alexandria, VA, June 15, 2017- The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) has teamed up with Visit Anchorage to bring an extensive selection of 24 Alaska familiarization trips to travel agents participating in NACTA’s annual conference September 13-16, 2017. Bringing a travel agent conference to Alaska for the first time is proving to be a smart move as NACTA is enjoying record breaking conference registrations. The conference is being held at the iconic Hotel Captain Cook in the heart of Anchorage.

“Partnering with NACTA to bring nearly 500 travel professionals to Anchorage to experience the great state of Alaska is an investment that will pay off for many of our small Alaskan tour operators who are participating in the conference program” said David Kasser, VP Tourism Development & Sales for Visit Anchorage. “NACTA travel agents are small business entrepreneurs with proven group business and we are thrilled they’ve made the choice to hold their conference with us in Anchorage, Alaska.”

NACTA members’ collective leisure sales amount to $600 million annually and the state of Alaska tourism is poised to capture their share of that business for 2018. NACTA is proud to count among its membership 1,600 professional travel sellers who are focused 100 percent on leisure and group sales. Travel agents who are members of parent company ASTA are also able to take advantage of the conference and FAM programs.

“Providing a conference venue such as Alaska that allows NACTA members to experience popular leisure destinations in-depth while networking with in-state local suppliers is a winning combination” said Ann Chamberlin, President of NACTA. “The support of Visit Anchorage and our connections in Alaska has helped grown this popular conference to a four-day program, in addition to the 24 pre-and post fam options and inclusion of 20 Alaska travel suppliers. Ultimately our NACTA members benefit, as do their future Alaska travelers.”

Among the conference program highlights is Chris Elliott, a syndicated travel journalist and consumer advocate, who will make Anchorage a stop on his Great American Tour trek and speak to the conference attendees about his personal adventures during the NACTA conference general session on September 14, 2017. His articles, columns and essays offer advice for people who want to become more informed travelers.
