Learning Journeys’ “Traveling Classrooms” Offer a Major Evolution in Experiential Learning Worldwide

Led by Local Experts and Artisans, Programs Provide Hands-On Learning with Opportunities to Immerse in Cultures, Cuisines, and Customs of Each Destination

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (June 8, 2021) – Providing a traveling classroom in destinations worldwide, Learning Journeys offers a breadth and depth of programs that spark the imagination – from learning the art of belly dancing in Turkey and beekeeping in Poland to spending a week as a distiller in Scotland or songwriter in Nashville. Each program features hands-on learning with skilled experts, artisans, and teachers, and is designed to contribute to the communities visited in sustainable and meaningful ways.

“After a year of travel restrictions, humans are yearning to not just go on a vacation, but also connect with new people, places, and cultures to rediscover what they’re passionate about,” said Dr. Carol Dimopoulos, CEO of Learning Journeys. “Learning Journeys’ programs lead guests to discover more about themselves and, while exploring a chosen interest, engage in curated activities that ignite the spirt and transform the mind, body, and soul.”

LearningJourneys.com details several programs based on interest, passion, destination, and even skill level. Each small-group program departure has a maximum of 12 guests, with private and semi-private options available. In addition to the in-person program immersion, Learning Journeys includes opportunities to meet the teachers pre-program and experience a follow-up post program session to further guide learners on their path.

Experiential Itineraries

Songwriting in Nashville takes musicophiles deep into the Nashville music scene culminating in a personally recorded EP and onstage performance in Music City, U.S.A. The seven-day program kicks-off with a private songwriting session with James Dean Hicks who has written songs for Johnny Cash, Reba McIntyre, Kenny Rogers, Blake Shelton and Kenny Chesney, to name a few. After a Nashville immersion visiting famous sites such as Ryman Auditorium, Quonset Hut Studio, the Country Music Hall of Fame, RCA Studio B, and the Grand Ole Opry, its straight to the studio to record and produce an EP. Attendees then spend time with a renowned music publicist and either perform their song or hear it played at one of Nashville’s music venues. 2021 departure dates: July 11 and September 19 starting at $3,850 per person.

In Périgord, France: Wine, Wisdom and Wellness puts the art of balance into practice for eight days. Morning yoga sessions are followed by visits to local historical sites via horseback through the Vézère valley to reduce the group’s carbon footprint. A day at Plum Village, the first monastic community founded by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, is spent deep in meditation while engaging with the Plum Village inhabitants for an intense spiritual experience. For balance, guests discover French “art de vivre” through gastronomy during a visit to truffle farm, wine tasting at an organic vineyard, and a cooking demonstration by a local chef. 2021 departure date: September 10 starting at $4,800 per person.

Whether pursuing photography as a new hobby, or considering a career as a professional photographer, The Lens of Light-Photography Immersion in Saratoga Springs with Lawrence White caters to all students seeking to develop their artistic vision. From Rolling Stone to Vogue, Lawrence White has created iconic images over his 40-year career. His learning sessions begin with the basics of exposure, focus, shutter speed and more. Students then have an opportunity to independently explore and capture Saratoga Springs with insider insight on where to capture the best images. The final photography session is spent examining the use of light in photography. Attendees will practice the elements of seeing, capturing, and processing light as the skills learned during the six-day itinerary are put into practice. Included in the program is a post-travel virtual session with Lawrence White to work on the images captured during the trip. 2021 departure dates: July 11, September 12, September 26, and October 3 starting at $2,525 per person.

Greece: Wellness and Lifestyle Immersion in Zakynthos is an eight-day wellness and learning immersion filled with daily yoga and meditation sessions set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Aegean Sea. The journey begins in Athens on a sightseeing journey at the new Acropolis Museum then continues to Zakynthos. Excursions include the island’s famous Blue Caves, visiting a local, family-owned olive press complete with a tasting, and meeting with members of the Women’s Agricultural Cooperative to learn (and taste) about cheese making and local traditions first-hand. 2021 departures dates: September 18 and October 2 starting at $3,290 per person.

Why Learning Journeys?

“The founding principal of Learning Journeys is quite simple: Leave the world a little bit better than you found it,” said Dr. Carol Dimopoulos, CEO of Learning Journeys. “As an educator and researcher, I have infused every Learning Journeys program with locally based experiences that contribute to the communities visited. These sustainable community interactions are central to the continuing education programs which I personally researched and developed around the world.”

Learning Journeys is founded on four pillars of personal growth: education, transformation, exploration, and self-reflection. The traveling classroom programs allow participants to become truly immersed in hands-on subject learning while enjoying the authentic cultures and traditions native to the destination. Additionally, a portion of each program fee goes back into community initiatives including grants to women in underserved destinations and cultural preservation projects.

Three program categories to reflect different levels of immersion in a chosen learning experience: Explore an Interest, Pursue a Passion and Change My Life. Private journeys, semi-private, and small group experiences provide enticing and engaging ways for participants to learn about new cultures, enjoy new experiences, and spend valuable quality time together.
