News from Magister Tours, Turkey

Dear Colleague,

Istanbul is recognized as one of Europe's great cultural capitals and travelers are drawn to the city for its amazing wealth of significant sights, superb cuisine, and intriguing meld of  Western and Eastern traditions. A visit to this fascinating city invariably leads to an insatiable urge to go beyond Istanbul to explore the archaeological, geological  and historical wonders found throughout the country.

Cultural Encounters in Istanbul and Beyond

Today's traveler is often looking for more than just a tour of the ancient sites.  We are finding that people are interested in meeting the people who live there and learning about their way of life and their specialties.  For instance, Turkey is well known for its carpet weaving and visitors to Cappadocia enjoy the opportunity to watch the weaving and learn the various aspects of the process.   Clients can also visit a  typical family cave dwelling home in this region.  For those interested in pottery, we can arrange a visit to a pottery shop where they see a demonstration and then try their hand at the potter's wheel.

Istanbul has some wonderful cooking schools where clients gain hands-on experience in preparing Turkish cuisine under the guidance of an expert chef.  The variety of the dishes found throughout the different regions of Turkey is quite extraordinary and  your "foodie" clients will have a fabulous time exploring on a culinary extravaganza.

Your art enthusiasts will be delighted with a walking tour through the district of Tophane in Istanbul.  There are 10 individually owned art galleries in this area that collaborate on exhibits and activities to make for a very interesting excursion.  Also nearby is the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art which has made quite a name for itself in the seven years of its existence. Commonly referred to as the 'Istanbul Modern', the museum features both permanent and temporary exhibits of Turkish and International art collections.

Turkey is home to a significant collection of religious sites for the Christian, Islam and Jewish faiths.  It was in Southeastern Turkey that Abraham, father of all three monotheistic faiths,  reportedly lived and you can see the cave where he is said to have been born. Anatolia is of special importance in early Christian history as the home to Saints John, Paul and Peter and the site of many activities written about in the bible.  And few people realize or remember that St. Nicholas (Father Christmas) was born in Turkey in the province of Lycia.  Journey to Mount Ararat and you will be at the acce pted landing place of Noah's Ark.

Turkey is definitely a perfect destination for religious pilgrimages, and Magister Tours has the knowledge and experience to organize a memorable trip for your church or synagogue groups and FITs.
