During a week w hen a Canadian MP called the Trump tariffs an “act of war,” the Canadian prime minister announced that the era of close ties with the U.S. is over, and reports were surfacing of Canadians being detained by U.S. immigration officials, a few intrepid representatives of Tourism Montreal made the trip to New York to promote the Montreal Jazz Festival.
The reactions to sudden new political turmoil between the two governments was also shaking up airline flight schedules between the U.S. and Canada. Several airlines were canceling routes in response to a drop in demand as Canadians opt to boycott U.S. products, including travel. The Montreal contingent’s flight was canceled and they had to reschedule for the next day. That put…
