A rare Category 2 tropical cyclone has stalled Royal Caribbean and Carnival ships off the southeastern coast of Australia coast and shut down the port of Brisbane, along with its trains and buses. Local authorities have issued “prepare to evacuate” warnings for parts of Australia’s third-largest city.
The first cyclone here in 50 years, Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to make landfall late today (Friday) or early Saturday, bringing winds up to 95 mph; on Thursday mariners reported record-breaking waves. The port is closed until at least March 8. Carnival Luminosa and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas, which homeport in Brisbane, will remain at sea this weekend…
