The 1920 Wall Street Bombing
On September 16, 1920 at noon, a horse-drawn wagon paused outside of the J.P. Morgan building at 23 Wall Street, near a very busy corner of the financial district of New York City. Inside the wagon was more than 100 pounds of dynamite with 500 pounds of metal shrapnel. A timer detonated the dynamite at the beginning of the lunch hour, ensuring the maximum number of casualties. Thirty-eight people were killed and more than 400 injured. Italian anarchists were suspected of perpetrating the crime, but no arrests were made and the case was closed in 1940.
