Back in March, the mainstream media was quick to jump on the Ruby Princess story, painting the ship and those in charge of her as a major contributor to the current health crisis. Now, however, few of those same outlets are giving equal coverage to a new report which has essentially cleared the ship and her crew of…

Pike Place Market Opens
The local farmers around Seattle were not happy. Because of the distance into town and the difficult requirements of city government, most were forced to sell their produce on consignment through the wholesalers in town. As a result, they made little of the final profit on the food they brought to town. On Saturday, August 17, 1907 City Council declared the day Public Market Day and permitted the farmers to sell direct to the public. Threats of violence from the consignment sellers dampened the opening day enthusiasm, but soon the public began to show. Pike Place Market was to become the longest continuously-running public farmer's market in the United States.…

It’s time to buddy-up and mentor-up
by John Frenaye
Monday August 17, 2020

I have long been a proponent of the buddy system. We used it in kindergarten when we crossed the roads. We used it in high school and college when we were working on group projects. And right now, at this point in the history of our industry, it probably makes sense to revisit.

Pre-COVID I always suggested that agencies, especially the solopreneurs, find a trustworthy colleague and flesh out an agreement to handle one another’s business when needed. It made sense. by Richard Earls
Sunday August 16, 2020

Instinctively, we seek out heroes. In our political, social, and family life, we know the value of a person who will step up and take charge, who will risk safety and comfort for a greater good. Heroes remind us of what is best in the human character. Deep in our archetypal psyche, the stories of men and women who have managed to persist against great odds holds a special place.  Our religion, literature, folk tales, and movies all tend to revolve around the individual on a quest, willing to do the extraordinary, inspired by a deep passion.

We find ourselves in need of a hero, now and always, and especially in the midsts of our current situation with the travel standstill. We could all use a bit…

Mike’s 1-Minute Marketing Memos

The “Yootes” of Today

Young people have yet to win or lose at life. Their game will be getting started the moment they graduate from high school. Even then, many will postpone the “real” game for another four years, as they polish up their academic resume. Not long ago, I found myself sharing a number of my ideas and suggestions with a room full of high school seniors.

I reminded…
