I live in a town that is dependent on tourism. When winter rolls around, many shopkeepers would like to board up the windows and simply close; but the rents are still due as are the utilities...so shutting down is not an option. I spoke with a restaurant owner that told me that sometimes things are so tough, that he might pay me to eat at his place if I would take a window seat to make it look busy. So, how does a town like this survive on the off season?  They make their own business.

They came to the trade show ready to do business, and wanting to do business.

They came to the "SHOW" wanting to meet new prospects. They came to the “SHOW” with very good intentions. I applauded them for get up, getting out, and coming to the “SHOW.”

Next week I have the opportunity to travel for pleasure and, as always, small apprehensions about all of the work I have to do at the office shadow my travel plans. I thought it might an opportunity to re-focus on a few critical issues- like why I do what I do, how to do it better, and what to do more often.  As I wrote down my thoughts, it occurred to me we far too often lose sight of the reasons we are in the travel business. So I developed the following suggestions for myself. At first I called them commandments, but they really are suggestions more than commandments.
